Sitting around one evening in a diner 4 years ago a few friends and I got into the discussion of what critter would represent us. I drew a few different things for them (one of my friend is a hamster) and for myself i drew this bee. 4 years after doodling this bee on paper corners and napkins i decided to paint it.
This is 10 minutes into painting after sketching my figure.
More time spent. I added more brown to all the black in the painting, i think it makes it more appealing. more earthy. I added white, brown and black dots of paint with a bent paper clip cause i felt the paint brush couldn't lay the paint on the canvas the way i wanted.
Different lighting on the painting when i took the picture, only thing different are the wings being painted on the canvas. I felt something was wrong with their shape.
Final product. i painted the wings more transparently so u can see the background. I added more yellow around the bee and signed the sucker. its pictured here signed on the wall. When i was finished i named it self portrait as suggested by my mother. She told me im busy as a bee and that im very social, i pollinate relationships by bringing people together. This is my most recent painting. i finished this 11/09
